Throwback Thursday: 3-21-2008 at PINWR

Pearl McKenzie (Class of Fall 1998) above and Susan Boyd (Class of 2003) below look through a spotting scope at Bird’s Impoundment at Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge (PINWR) on Friday, 3-21-2008, after work walk.

Thanks to wildlife photographer Bob Montanaro for bringing the PINWR spotting scope, which is set to view 19 roseate spoonbills that were pink “spots” to my camera …

Participants were lined up to view these beautiful pink birds …

Five of us completed the 2 1/2 walk all the way around this mosquito control impoundment …

Why the big smiles?

We got to see more than one dozen great blue herons all together on the mosquito control dike. These normally exceedingly territorial birds were joining up to fly north. True snowbirds.
