Since 1998, the Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory has offered special educational walks, talks, and other activities for “veteran” volunteers — folks who have taken one of the Volunteer Nature Stewardship classes for ORCA. Many of these offerings pre-suppose and build upon the understanding gained through participation in the core classes.
The last activity was on orchid walk on 7/21/2019. Seeds pods were beginning to form on the Florida butterfly orchids (Encylcia tampensis). The barrier island in Indian River County is named Orchid island in honor of this plant.
Check back! More activities are soon to be scheduled.
