The simpsons stopper (Myrcianthes fragrans) in the Oslo Riverfront Conservation Area (ORCA) parking lot is full of flowers — even more flowers than when it bloomed in the spring. Tropical plants sometimes will bloom a second time, unlike temperate plants which have a “set” bloom cycle tied to the change of seasons.
Perhaps, it was the stress of Hurricane Irma that encouraged the simpsons stopper to re-flower profusely this year …
Bevies of bees (like the European honey bee pictured below) and other pollinators are attracted to its fragrant, multi-stamened flowers …
