Throwback Thursday: 2008 & 2017

Jungle Trail Conservation Area was its original name. It’s current name is Captain Forster Preserve. Captain Forster owned land that he farmed in the vicinity but not this property.

The photo above was taken on 3-28-2008 in the midst of the bowstring hemp (Dracaena hyacinthoides) with a sprig of Australian pine (Casuarina sp.) in the upper right. Bowstring may be better known as mother-in-law’s tongue or as iguanatail. Sansevieria hyacinthoides) is its old botanical name. These invasive plants mostly have been eradicated by professional contractor engaged by Indian River County in 2017 and paid for by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

Barbie Martz (Class of 2012) and her friend Tammy are pictured with Australian pine stumps “re-purposed” as seating when we visited on 3-19-2017
