Throwback Thursday: Pelican Island NWR

Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge (PINWR) is the very first and was created in 1903. Land purchases began in 1990, and by 2002 encompassed 5,445 acres, much of it former citrus grove. An Observation Tower now overlooks Pelican Island.
