Many thanks to Janie Gould for a wonderful talk about mid 20th century life along the Indian River Lagoon on 2-27-2016 at the (Pelican Island) Audubon House. From gators to Spanish moss to otter pelts, Janie artfully blended audio tapes from her Floridays oral histories into a marvelous depiction of the ways that people used Florida’s natural resources to make their livings or to supplement their income.
The room was filled, the audience held rapt, and her books — Food for Floridays: Recipes & Stories, Floridays: Stories from under the Sun, and Floridays: Stories from under the Sun Volume II — sold out.
A talented writer and oral historian, Janie frequently speaks for the National Endowment for the Humanities. Please contact Janie Janiegould@aol.com to book her for your club or group.
