Happy Arbor Day 2016!
Here in Florida our trees often are festooned with epiphytic decoration. This live oak (Quercus virginiana) growing along the banks of the Sebastian River was ablaze with blushing southern needleaf plants (Tillandsia setacea) and was viewed from across the river at Cypress Bend Community Preserve. Sunshine is said to be the reason that these normally green-hued plants turn a dramatic pinkish-red color.
The small green wild pine (Tillandsia utriculata) seems to adopting a similar hue.
Keep enjoying the treetops!
