The 2020 Volunteer Nature Stewardship class began on Saturday, January 18, 2020 and included a nature walk at south Oslo Riverfront Conservation Area (ORCA). Special thanks Mate, our walk mascot, the woodle pictured at the lower right.
Special thanks to Eva Bruckner, the Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory Extension Specialist. She brought her “critters”: Eggs, larvae, pupae, and adults of the yellow fever mosquito (Aedes aegypti), the mosquitoes that transmit the exotic diseases dengue fever, Zika, and chickungunya. A capful of water is all that these domestic mosquitoes need to complete their life cycle.
Kudos to Wildlife Photographer Bob Montanaro for sharing the first segment of his Our Insect Overlords program. Ants, bees, and wasps (Hymenoptera) were the focus.
