Atop the Observation Tower

It was a wonderfully beautiful day for a hike to the ORCA Observation Tower on Saturday, January 25.  Conditions were a bit soggy with the recent rains and tides that have been higher than usual.  Thank you to George & Mary Ester Bollis for the people photos.

Indian River Mosquito Control Director Doug Carlson pointed out the culverts used to control water levels in the impoundment overlooked by the Observation Tower.

During the winter months the culverts remain open so that fish and other organism can use the impounded areas.

Pictured above is a culvert at Toni Robinson Waterfront Trail where we visited on 12-8-2019,  This property is owned entirely by the Indian River Land Trust (IRLT) and is open to public access form dawn to dusk every day.  Thank you to Dave Fuss, IRLT Director of Land Stewardship, for a look at the properties and activities of the IRLT.
