The Wednesday work crew enjoyed viewing a gopher tortoise in its burrow on Wednesday, 3/11/15, as they worked to control invasive pest plants. Thanks to sharp-eyed Diane LaRue for spotting the tortoise and to Ken Gonyo for taking/sending this photo.
The burrow is located in an area of the scrubby pine flatwoods near the former (now toppled) Awesome pine, where there no longer are public trails. The Wednesday work crew gets to visit areas of ORCA not open to the general public.
